The head advisor to the king has the king's ear and his total trust and support, which is enough to say that the head advisor is the superior of the other courtiers who not nearly so much influence on the running of the kingdom.

court treasurer (0/1)
The king's second-most-trusted advisor also has a significant chunk of influence over the court and city, though not enough to trounce the head advisor. The court treasurer is responsible for overseeing the kingdom's wealth, and has more influence with the traders and businessmen of Kingshill than most.

old money
These nobles have very old and prestigious family heritage, with enough money set aside to have no need to work hard or do anything besides wrestle each other for influence over the younger blood in the court.

new blood
These men and women have very little little family heritage to their name, usually having been indirectly brought into a noble house through marriage somewhere in the family, and must work much harder to maintain their status as courtiers and gain influence over the city.

household retainers
While not necessarily nobles, retainers of the noble households, such as servants, ladies-in-waiting, housekeepers, and the like, are considered to be part of their noble family's house, and are thus within the fold of the aristocrats - by a hair. Their status is only as stable as their job, and they must work constantly to maintain it.

Each member of the Elistaran Aristocracy belongs to a noble house, a collection of loosely-related individuals, ranging from siblings to distant cousins to household retainers - when you post your character's bio link, please either specify a pre-existing house or put down the name of a new one of your own creation. After a certain number of noble houses have been created, though, you will no longer be able to create new houses.
