SO, unfortunately, you'll have to disregard the Avatar tab in Edit Profile altogether, and instead place a url into the 250x250 spot in the Personal tab, instead. That means your avatar needs to be uploaded somewhere else, like TinyPic or Imgur. You'll also have to check your gender twice. You have my sincerest apologies. Perhaps one day I will be able to fix that, but not right now. It is an issue that has long evaded a solution. If you have any other questions about your profile and things not working right, please let me know!
